What Are The Primary Symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis?

The most common vaginal infection is bacterial vaginosis, but much is still unknown about it. For example, have not yet identified the specific causes. What is known is that develops when the natural balance of flora in the vagina is disrupted. Occurs when bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus is reduced to a point where other types of organisms may be grown in large quantities. What experts do not yet know is what makes this happen. Diagnosis is difficult because almost 50% of the time, women have no symptoms.

Although the exact causes are unknown, the odds of having bacterial vaginosis are increased by douching, smoking and having sex with multiple partners.

While sexual activity can be a trigger or worsen the infection, it is not considered a sexually transmitted disease as a woman is not able to go to a male. However, it can be transmitted from one woman to another. Another reason why this is not a sexually transmitted disease is because women who have never had sex can still get bacterial vaginosis. Also women are not able to get the infection from toilets, swimming pools, or sleeping in beds other than their own.

The most commonly observed with BV symptom is vaginal discharge. Color is usually an off-white, but about 30% of women with BV say the color is yellow. Another common symptom is a fishy odor that occurs especially after sexual activity. Itching is not normally present.Other less common symptoms are pain during intercourse and urination, burning, irritation, and swollen vagina.
If you experience symptoms like this, then you should get a diagnosis to know exactly what your case. Ignoring that will let you do the most damage. Diagnosis is also important because some women make the mistake of treating what they believe is bacterial vaginosis, only to discover later that it was something else. Treating poor condition becomes worse.

Bacterial vaginosis can lead to other health problems such as pelvic inflammatory disease. If this happens, then a woman is susceptible to infertility. Preterm labor and miscarriage occurred because of it.Although generally antibiotic treatment for bacterial vaginosis are administered, many women are now trying natural remedies. They have many advantages over drugs. For example, they are less expensive and the side effects are minimal.
